ITINERARY

Day 1:Base Camp

Departure by car to Pinaya village. (4 hour journey; 90 kms.). A 3 hour walk leads us to base camp at 4.500 m. Mules will carry our equipment.

Day 2:Nido de Condores

Due to crumbly and slippery moraines, we’ll have a hard and slow trek. It’s a short way for the 5 hour walk to Nido de Cóndores at 5.550 m.; this camping place above the beginning of the glacier looks like a nest perched above steep walls which fall away on all sides. Porters will help with our equipment.

Day 3:SUMMIT

We start at 05:00 following a long and steep edge which gives way to a high flat area where we attack a huge dome which is quite difficult due to the ice conditions. After finishing the dome it takes 1 hour to reach the top by an easy field. 7 hours climb.

Day 4: Return to Base Camp

3 hour descent. Free afternoon.

Day 5: Return to La Paz

We come back to Cohoni to meet our car. Picnic in Pinaya

before return trip to La Paz.

Sajama National Park

Bolivia’s first national park occupies 1000 sq km abutting the Chilean border. The park offers expansive high-plains views, geyser fields, hot springs, and climbing and hiking opportunities aplenty.

vicuña populations are on the rise – they were nearly hunted to extinction for their highly prized wool. You may also spot condors, flamingos, rheas and armadillos.

The world’s highest forest covers the foothills flanking the awe-inspiring Volcán Sajama which, at 6542m, is Bolivia’s highest peak. The forest consists of dwarf queñua trees, an endemic and ancient Altiplano species. But while technically a forest, it’s a little underwhelming – the ‘trees’ look more like little bushes!
