This is a magnificent hike; perhaps the most epic Bolivia has to offer. You will have the opportunity to explore uninhibited wilderness, while the surrounding scenery is the best of the Andes, with views of Ancohuma, Illimani, the Cordillera Real and Sunchuli. There will be many opportunities to observe Andean wildlife, including llamas, alpacas, Condors, Viscachas, Vicuñas and if you’re really lucky, the bespectacled bear. This enchanting trek through isolated villages, beautiful rolling hills sparkling with streams and the occasional waterfall, goldmines and the opportunity to bump into a Kallawaya (traveling doctor) from the village of Curva combined with hardcore trekking involving a series of switchbacks makes this an incredible and rewarding trip.
One of the most popular downhill treks in Bolivia and achievable by nearly everybody, a shame to miss if time allows you the luxury of experiencing this fabulous and sometimes demanding adventure. Walk in the steps of the Inca from a barren 4,900m down a beautifully preserved stone path into the subtropical vegetation of the Yungas, where you’ll see citrus & banana trees, coffee and coca plantations, colorful birds and butterflies and if you’re extremely lucky you’ll catch a glimpse of the elusive spectacled bear staring back at you. Expect to get your feet wet in the pristine waterfall-fed stream crossings and stay at the crazy old Japanese home, set up camp in his garden. Ending in the town of Chairo you can choose to stay in the lovely tropical town of Coroico or return directly to La Paz.
